In the process, we'll learn a little more about these powerful animals that played a big part in the Old West and are still used in today's ranching world.

Coggins Testing
State law requires that all equines entering in a public event must have a current Coggins test. the Davis Mountains Therapeutic Riding Center will hold a Coggins clinic for interested persons on Saturday September 14th from 10:00am - noon. Dr. Aaron Burbach from Big Bend Veterinary Services will administer the testing and results should return in a week. The cost is $35.00. ALL equines attending the event (including those in the parade) must have proof of a current Coggins test to be allowed to participate.

Mule Rodeo
Martinez Arena will be the site for a Fort Davis 1st...an all Mule Rodeo! There will be team roping, wild cow milking, hide race, buffalo hunt, match races, barrel race, boot race and halter class. All events are 100% payback with a saddle from Corriente Saddle Company to High Point Mule and buckles to all first place winners. Contact Skeet Boyd for entry information. 307-660-6932 (current Coggins required on all Mules entering the rodeo.)

Catalog Mule Sale
Sunday at high noon, a Catalog Mule Sale will take place behind the union in Memorial Square. All Mules in the sale must compete in at least three events in the Mule Rodeo to be eligible. Contact Skeet Boyd for details. 307-660-6932. Take a look at some of the mules up for sale here!


Donkey Daze
Donkey Daze will take place in Memorial Square all weekend with vendors, a donkey petting zoo, food booths, Donkey Races for all ages and the ultimate Donkey Bingo!

Rodeo Dance

Get ready to dance under the stars at the new Audrey & Tyrone Kelly Outdoor Theatre. The Muleskinner Band will be playing tunes for everyone from 8:00pm until midnight. Tickets are $6.00 per person or $10 per couple and are available at the door. It's BYOB but no bottles please. Bring your favorite lawn chair and dancin' shoes for a fun night under the beautiful West Texas Sky.

Mountain Man Rendezvous

The 29th Annual Davis Mountain Brigade Mountain Man Rendezvous will take place at the Evans Mulhern Ranch on Hwy 118, three miles outside of Fort Davis. It runs Friday, September 27th - Sunday, September 29th. This flashback to the 1800's will have black powder shooting demonstrations and contests, primitive camping, tomahawk and knife throwing and much more. Primitive clothing is required but "Pilgrims" (first-timers!) are always welcome and the Brigade is always willing to help "newbies". Mule & Donkey Daze is a fun, family event with food, game and craft booths. The Vendor Area is geared toward hand-made crafts, western art or crafts, period pieces, unique food. children's games and anything with donkey's on it!
